Athi River TT

I am certain that you’ve heard about Club TT Motorsports and we all know a thing or two about racing and crossing finish lines, but not every race is about speed.

The road to getting the necessary approvals to put on a Time Trial-In this case, ATHI TT-ever legal drag racing event  the first of its kind is a matter of endurance for the organizers at Club TT.

After a haphazard attempt at organization, Mombasa back roads were set ablaze with high rpm engine noises as hoons set off for Whistling moran this past weekend, sunday 26th may 2019.

This time I must admit our police officers were on their best behavior , and in a friendly way, taking time to give directions to the event with a smile. Once on site, we were treated to an interesting gymkhana. Gymkhana is a type of motorsport that is set to achieve the fastest time possible; memorizing the course is a significant part of achieving a fast time.

George Nicholas, a well-known racer driving a Subaru impreza sti n10 model was in the lead by this time and it would take three miracles for other competitors to catch up to him.By this time, there were several contenders and some unusual ones. Rose Rop in the Toyota Starlet Glanza was one of the favorites though she did not fare too well. Kay Wachira, with his car “Lipstick” a subaru GF8 actually had the best chance at being the lead but fate had other ideas due to an oil leak just after smoking Nicholas STI on the first heat. Shortly thereafter, Salaman Mohammed got to settle the score by beating Nicholas in the third heat with his STI. Had things gone better for him on the previous heats, he may have probably gone home with the overall title.

That being said, this event was not as marketed as the previous iteration which even had illustrious sponsorship from MOTUL and NRG. In so doing, it may have irritated a section of us who were used to the convenience and coverage.

This reminds car guys of the old school car meets which required commitment and self-determination from the spectators and drivers themselves. This basically translates to carrying everything you were going to need from whichever city you came from. This edition of ATHI TT was for car enthusiasts as opposed to fresh spectators looking for a weekend plot. Perhaps that would be the overall direction the TT events take going forward.

Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar has done it again, well this time around its a sprawling Western tale of loyalty, conviction, and the price of infamy, chronicling the inevitable collapse of a motley crew of Wild West holdouts kicking against the slow march of civilisation and industrialisation. Set in Rockstar’s most authentic and lived-in open world ever, there are so many things to do, so many people to meet, and so many places to explore it’s giddily overwhelming.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best looking video game of all time. Yes, EVER. And that includes Uncharted 4 . It’s also the best game of the past five years. Compare this Wild West epic to GTA 3’s blocky Liberty City and its cast of fugly thugs you probably kneecapped on a tiny TV 17 years ago, and the evolution is astounding. At times, it’s scarcely believable how good Rockstar’s latest sandbox looks and feels.

Lets start with it’s 1899 and American outlaws are an endangered species. Dutch van der Linde and his gang are on the run after a heist in the growing town of Blackwater and they’ve retreated high into the mountains where a blizzard is covering their escape. We slip into the spurs of Arthur Morgan, a cool and capable outlaw who was found by Dutch as a boy and raised on the wrong side of the law, and settle in for a roughly 60-hour story.

It’s a self-contained and linear introduction but it’s a clever one. The slick cinematics make a hell of first impression, embedding you in the gang and bringing you right up close to the characters who are doing their best to bellow over the howling wind. It also placed me in a distraction-free bubble while I learned some of Red Dead Redemption 2’s early controls and systems, which heightened the impact of having the full map open up to me a few hours later. The conditions on the mountain are almost claustrophobic, with visibility of thick snow trapping Arthur’s feet. Being set loose in the true open world after toughing it out in this intentionally oppressive environment really underscores the incredible feeling of freedom the full map offers.

The game itself plays similar to the original, with an enormous, unfolding open-world map, However, combat has been tweaked to make for more tangible, gun fights. It is easy to control, with the same sort of duck and cover mechanics used in Grand Theft Auto titles, and it’s just, well, fun.

Red Dead Redemption 2 stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Grand Theft Auto V as one of the greatest games of the modern age. It’s a gorgeous depiction of an ugly period that’s patient, polished, and a huge amount of fun to play, and it’s combined with Rockstar’s best storytelling to date. Even after finishing the lengthy story I can’t wait to go back and play more. This is a game of rare quality…

Need For Speed Rivals

Need for Speed Rivals is a fun and enjoyable racing game that sports really nice looking visuals and a strong multiplayer mode. When fleeing from a pack of cops at 150mph through a forest after midnight, I found it difficult not to be excited by Need for Speed: Rivals – and then a helicopter’s searchlight pours in through the trees for an additional adrenaline kick.

Developed by Ghost Games, Rivals feels like the natural successor to the work of previous NFS developer Criterion. (Unsurprising really consider the majority of the staff went over to the new studio.) It combines Hot Pursuit’s cops-versus-racer dynamic with the freeform gameplay of Most Wanted’s open world. In many ways it’s the best of both, although if you’ve played either of those a great deal, as I have, you may get a feeling of déja vu from Rivals.

It inserts gamers behind the wheel of both sides of the thin blue line, daring them to cross that line as either a cop or racer in order to gain any advantage in the street’s ultimate rivalry. Players decide between two distinct career experiences, each with its own set of high-stakes challenges, rewards, pursuit tech and cars. The intensity of the action is enhanced as a result of AllDrive, a feature that destroys the line between single player, co-op and multiplayer. Through AllDrive, friends are connected to one racing world where their races and chases can collide at any time.

Rivals is very much in the tradition of Hot Pursuit, but that great, familiar gameplay has been infused with enough new elements to make it as thrilling here as it’s ever been. It sure is good to hit the open road again.

FORZA HORIZON 4

fThe UK is not exactly famous for its wonderful roads, but there are no two-hour traffic jams on the M25 or dispiriting stretches of the North Circular in Forza Horizon 4’s Britain. it kicks off with a showcase that drops you right into the action, barrelling through all seasons in a variety of cars. It’s a taster menu that showcases a few of the delights that the open-world racer is going to bestow upon you in the future.

The stunning visual quality and sound design, the massive array of automobiles, and the extensive and completely customisable career mode that have become hallmarks of the Horizon series are all here. What’s new is just how much more effectively Forza Horizon 4 encourages us to return thanks to its shifting seasons, regularly refreshed challenges, and steady stream of rewards.

Part of my adoration is that there’s just so much stuff here. Forza Horizon 4, for those unfamiliar with the series, is an open-world racer closer in tone to Test Drive Unlimited than Burnout Paradise, with the wealth of content on offer in this iteration spoiling me for choice. Your favourite car is undoubtedly here, be it a 1997 Lamborghini Diablo, several different models of Subaru Impreza or the iconic Warthog from shooter Halo.

Forza Horizon 4 is one of the most polished driving games ever made. The feeling, the amount of content, the spectacular open world and the unbelievable visuals are some pieces of this puzzle that match perfectly to form, all together, a true masterpiece that is perfect in almost every single aspect.
